From a business perspective, one of Ford’s most important products is the F-Series Super Duty. Like the light-duty F-150, the medium-duty SD pickup range models are best sellers in their segments. (Abbreviated “SD,” the Super Duty moniker refers to the F-250 up to the F-650 models, basically everything above the popular F-150 half-ton pickup.) Moreover, they generate enormous profits for Ford, contributing to the $35 billion-plus investment the company is making in electric vehicles.
Set to go on sale in spring 2023, the 2023 Super Duty lineup isn’t exactly “new” but combines an updated design with many of the cool tech features that debuted on the F-150 over the last two years. It also features software and electrical advancements designed to support upfitters who use the F-Series SD chassis cab architecture as a base for bucket trucks, emergency response vehicles and utility companies. There’s also a new 6.8-liter gasoline V8 engine based on the 7.3-liter “Godzilla” V8 architecture.
